Living as a Mentor

“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful people who will be able to teach others also.”

2 Timothy 2:2

To walk as a believer is challenging because this world is not our home. We must understand we are created for eternity so our thoughts should be pure and holy as these are the keys to deliver us from evil. In 1 Timothy 6:11 it reads, ”But you, O man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.” Paul had a special place in his heart for Timothy as it is recorded in Scripture. 1 Timothy 1:2 says, “To Timothy, my true child in the faith.” I’m reminded of the one who mentored me not even knowing it—my hero, Dr. Henry Morris III.

Dr. Morris followed the call of 2 Timothy 2:2. Through his passion of teaching and training God’s people, he equipped me and others to really understand God’s love for all men. In his gentle soft spirit, he spoke about the love of God, which guided me to research Scripture more passionately. As time passed, I became less offensive to those who didn’t know the Lord and normally rejected any conversation on the subject.

There was no way of knowing that the acceleration of my faith and love for the Lord was about to bless my family and I in a major way. In June 2019, I was diagnosed with a very serious medical condition, and later June 2020, I was given only 15 months to live. My family and I knew that only our faith and trust in the Lord would bring us comfort in this season. Due to the time that my family and I spent learning under Dr. Morris, my faith, love, and hope in my Lord over many years had been elevated. I knew that God’s good, pleasing and perfect will for my life could be trusted. I realized early on that the battle was not mine but my Lord and Savior’s. My health has now been restored, and I’m recovering very well.

The passion of God’s love for all men has truly been revealed to my family and I. In the midst of it all, God truly revealed Himself to us in a most glorious way! Be careful how you walk in the Lord. Someone could be watching you.
